It look real but I don't like that the reverse looks like the upper left has been filed down. I want one of these but I wouldn't take the chance on this one. If your really after one check out Vcoins.com I'm sure you would be able to find one there that is guaranteed real.

Thanks for the replies :), yeah the reverse is bad. the reason I was considering it is the other versions of it go from anywhere between $695-thousands and that's way above my budget at the moment :(.

Looks fake to me. They punched COPY on the side jsut outside the beading - I reckon thats why that area has been filed.

Thanks for the reply, I was just looking at the sellers feedback and it doesn't fill me confidence at all as well as your guys replies I'm going to look elsewhere for something nice :). Thank-you all.

The Feedback that seller got last year for one item ought to give you an idea of his calibre:
"fake item, seller refused refund and adopted a bellicose, obstreperous attitude"

I saw this particular coin on ebay and immediately thought that it was a modern fake beat up to make it look more ancient and "presentable". It is a type that is faked quite often.

@Masis Yeah I saw the feedback, and that particular comment shows someone with a fabulous command of the English language-great use of words.
@Paul Bulgerin Yeah unfortunately it appears something is up with it, as Ben mentioned the word copy is usually where the scratched off part is. And as you say, it is definitely notorious for counterfeiters. What a shame :(, oh well I will find some other coinage to make up for it lol.
Thank-you both and all for helping, I really appreciate it :).

It's a very commonly encountered Westair Reproductions Limited replica. The ground-off area is where the WRL stamp was. Here's one we haven't prepared earlier. Replica-makers, this is why simply stamping or countermarking your replicas just isn't good enough.

Thank-you Sap, I agree if a company is authorised to sell replicas surely it would be fair to use a differing metal or something. That sold for £25.00 and it's a damaged replica, it's a shame.
P.s. I like the blue peter style link :D.

for the buyer, for the seller. Dishonesty reigns supreme again. I hate this sort of skunge seller. VERY disappointing. , , , , , ,
