As some of you know I buy and sell on ebay to pay for much needed medicine. I keep many coins for my 12 year old niece but unfortunately I cant afford to keep any for me. Got this for $43.00. I think its a great price even for a cleaned one. I checked the sold listings and you get low grade and damaged for this price. Appreciate your opinion as long as it the same as mine. Just kidding.

Almost forgot. Does any know what type of machine error the metal around the stars at 2,3,4,11,and 12 o'clock is. It looks like the stars were dropped on the coin while it was molten metal. Is that a form of hub doubling. Couldn't find anything about it on this series or any other. Thanks.

Very nice coin. Because these are so small, most are not problem free. Holed for Jewelry, bent in circulation, badly scratched up,; you name it!
Even though this is the msot common date and by itself almost counts for half of the mintage of the entire series (1851-O, 1851-P - 1873-P); for $43 and what looks like a nice XF, you did well (Even as this coin is cleaned). People still haven't caught on to how rare these coins really are and IMHO this coin will see a hefty premium in the next 10-15 years.

I'm not sure on the stars but I know that a lot of these coins see a good die rotation (Up to 180 Degrees). Regularly it should be a coinage axis but they also come in the Medallic alignment which is a good bit rarer. Check for that.

Love the trimes . I do not think 43 is bad, it can be hit and miss with cleaned coins. I think I would have paid that for it.

I would like to call it XF details (but I keep doubting myself and start thinking VF details). It has the start of a nice clash on the reverse. I wonder if the stars are Die Deterioration or the start of Longacre Doubling.

EDIT: does anyone know if there was Longacre Doubling on trimes?
