hi, hope someone can help with the finer detail of this coin, as I say in the heading I'm sure (until told differently) that this is a coin from the Spanish Netherlands Brabant mint 1643 and it looks to my eyes to be copper but is it, I cant find anything like it that isn't silver?

approx 28mm and 4.1g

This should be a Brabant silver escalin. Maybe the toning and lighting in the pic are throwing you off. Or do you have the coin in hand?

A real one should be silver. It is probably a 17th century counterfeit. These counterfeits were produced in copper layered with a very thin layer of silver, which wore off very quick.

Yes, sorry about that, but I'm afraid ebay's policy on fake, counterfeit and replica coins is now "not allowed under any circumstances". No exemptions are given for contemporary circulation counterfeits, despite lobbying from collectors of such items to allow for such an exemption. It means that anyone who correctly describes their item is likely to be punished with a cancellation, while those who lie, claim not to know or otherwise do not admit that their coin is fake are allowed to keep their listings up.
