So earlier I was looking at a pretty inexpensive method of taking photos of my coins.... I really don't have much knowledge with SLR's really....
So with the birth of my son 2 years ago I bought a very simple point and shoot camera.. and with some tinkering I was able to take some decent photos.
Well then I found out I was going to have another kid... this time my wife requested that she get an ipad mini.. something she could easily keep on her to search the net while nursing but she could also take quick photos or videos at a moments notice...
Well having the ipad mini has been great... especially for her sanity she really still feels connected with the outside world and that's important...
But last night I decided to try it out to take photos of my coins.. Well it was just too easy! The quality of the shot and the details you can get are just sooo simple with the ipad... now if you wanna get REALLY good close ups of some details this obviously isn't the camera.... perhaps a good SLR with some great lenses or perhaps a USB miro-camera would be better suited...
But for me I'm not documenting and cataloging my coins... and with the ipad mini it's FUN!
With my old point and shoot camera it was a bit of a pain and took awhile... I think it took me nearly an hour to get 20 coins done well with lighting and distance and such with my very amateur set up. But with the ipad... in less than two hours I had taken over 500 photos (one obverse and one reverse) and I'm almost finished my 50 cent pieces, a task that seemed almost daunting with the camera.
Just wanted to put that out there... if you want to do a volume number of shots of just each coin for your own inventory.... the mini gets my recomendation...
