I love seeing this. I wish they'd apply it to phony stamped 925 jewelry from China

"He must also submit to forfeiture of the sized bars and over 100 counterfeit coins."

Makes you wonder just how many counterfeit coins are out there.

The reason I said that is I got a counterfeit 1923 Peace dollar from ebay last month. I got a refund and the seller never asked for it back (which I probably wouldn't have done to keep him from selling it again.) Anyway, I super glued a magnet to the back of it and it's amagnet now.

He seems to have defrauded others to the value of about $2,500.
For THAT he may cop as much as 15 years in jail.

Punishment DOES NOT fit the crime here.

For 15 years in jail, the cost to the taxpayer for detaining him will be about $1.5 million.

A far better legal outcome would have been for him to pay full restitution to those he has defrauded, and to pay all court costs, and keep him OUT of jail!

That way, no cost to the taxpayer whatsoever!
WHY should the taxpayer be always be found guilty?

I see your point Sel but with some people simple restitution and court costs are much of a deterrent. Without a strong deterrent (which in some cases requires a jail sentence) what's to stop him or others from doing it again?

My wrong. Restitution cost to the perpetrator $28,720.40
Cost to the taxpayer should still be nil.

Agreed. maybe it's time we bring back forced labor as a sentence so they can pay for their own prison terms? or perhaps we need to make the prison system more efficient so it doesn't cost 10 times what it costs me to survive a year to incarcerate someone does.
