IMHO - AU-53, nice late 30's find, that's one to rescue for sure.

Thanks folks. There is some staining and spots about the profile, the cheek, and along the rim/letters on the reverse. I can see light scratching and wear on the high spots in the usual places on the obverse and light damage to the '8'. On the reverse, it appears as a bit of a haze on the triangle and beam above the columns. Still plenty of luster though.
I appreciate the feedback! It fills a hole, so very happy to find one, especially in the condition I did. This is the fourth higher grade nickel in two months. I hope the streak continues!!

This Jefferson is in XF state ... call it XF45 by the photos.

Thanks everyone for weighing in!
David - I thought this was one of the elusive two for you. Hopefully yours is in the next box! Given the statistics you posted, I am hopeful to finish out my set in CRH fashion. This completes the '38 series, but I'm still searching for the '39 D and S in any grade. Right now, I have two higher grade book-ends for the 38 series as my '38 D is in VG state. I'd be quite satisfied to fill out the 39s in VG state! Thanks for dropping in - I was hoping this would grab your attention.

Quote: Thanks for dropping in - I was hoping this would grab your attention. You are indeed welcome ... truly wish I had more time to support all of you ... alas 60 hours+ per week of work has me tied down! Truly enjoy Jefferson roll searches ... and this 1938-S is a premium example of why I continue to hope to someday complete the set. No worries ... we will all get there someday. David

Very nice roll find. I'll toss an AU50 into the ring. Is that some green crud creeping up on that bad boy? If so, an acetone bath may be in line to complete the rescue...

Dave - Thanks for the suggestion. I may try that. The spots look blackish but perhaps the acetone will work. I've never tried acetone but I would give it a try on nickel (probably not copper as I've seen some discoloring). Thanks for the input! David - Too much work will crowd your hobby!! I stopped those kinds of hours a few years back - I wish I did that sooner. Now more time for the family, chores, and...coins!! Unless you own and operate the business, those hours only make someone else's life easier. I recall you saying you've pulled several nice early specimens - what are some of your favorite CRH finds? I'm sure you've posted over the years, but as a newbie, I'm very curious! Perhaps a specific topic for your favorites?
