Sounds like a standard 1965 quarter first year of clad or cupro-nickel has been the standard ever since aside from the silver proof coins of 1975-76 40% silver and ironically the only us quarter to ever be minted in 40% composition. Then in 1992 the us mint offered in addition to annual proof(clad) the silver proof sets. Previous to 1965 all quarters were minted in 90% silver alond with the half dollar and dime. You can always spot a clad coin by the copper center when viewing it from the side.
