I was wondering if this recently inherited Indian Head penny may be a mint stamp error? Should it be appraised?

They call these pop outs. They use a punch or in some cases a small die to push the area up. On the dies they actually create another image.

Bejud, Very intriguing coin. A keeper for sure.
As Coop posted it is a "pop out." Coop is one of the many experts here at CCF.

Should it be appraised?

No.
It is considered a damaged coin.IMHO
The next question I'm sure, "Is it valuable?"
Well, could be to some. Not sure what money range.
Lets see what the other CCF members think.

People who collect counter stamps would be interested in this one. But no need to have it slabbed.

Just found another image:

It looks like someone had a thing for mushrooms?
Fortunately, they didn't damage an 1887-DDO, a big variety.
