Hey everyone, I found this one today and thought it looked odd. At first I thought someone got really creative with a dremel. But I'm not so sure. Any ideas?

I guess that makes sense. Seems odd that the damage is isolated to the head. No other part of the coin shows damage.

This type of damage is always parallel to the rim. I agree with John1, coin wrapper damage.

Ok, thanks guys! I might keep it anyway. Never seen a bison rockin' a headband!

The head having a higher profile is probably why the same happened on just that one area?

is it possible it was struck through wire or debris? I can't tell from the pictures what it is.

The buffalo bills are psyched about having a chance at the playoffs this year?
Yeah Raymo already got the best off the cuff answer, but yeah the Bubble gum thing looks right. A few weeks ago I tried marring up a coin on the end of a role with the NF string crimper, and try as I might, I couldn't do it - BUT - These are plastic, not the commercial grade metal or ABA style machines used in banks and federal reserve locations.

I like that one.
For 5 cents I'd throw it in a 2 x 2 and enjoy it every time you take it out and look at it and have a good laugh.

I was thinking the same as you, bmanofnbc. Maybe some kind of debris. The line terminates abruptly right at the top of the nose. But then, I also think he could be just keeping the sweat out of his eyes!

I would be surprised if debris in a die would end right at the fields (the high part of the die) My bet is on counter damage.

We'll, I think I can put this one to rest. I took a much better picture using the IPhone "drop of water on the lens" technique. That works great by the way! Anyway, I think this image is pretty convincing. Good ole PMD.

Definitely damage. You can see the metal striations from what made contact with the coin. You also see the damage on OF and the ground below the buffalo. If it were a stuck through the fields also would be affected.
