Yesterday, my granddaughter (age 7) came up to me and said she thought she had found a fake "penny". What she handed me was a 1943 Lincoln. I grinned and told it was not fake but special in it's own way. She asked why so I explained about the need for certain kinds of materials during WWII. She asked if I had any books about it so I handed her A Guide Book of Lincoln Cents. She wanted to borrow it for a few days and I told her she could. She wanted to know if I would put it in one of those things I have, a flip, so she could keep it. She looked at me, grinned and said, "I have my first coin, grandpa". Some say the hobby is dying. After yesterday, I say the hobby is alive and doing well.

That is a great story..

Pick up a few Wheat cents and give them to her and, you'll have a new coin collector on your hands.

Love it when the kids get involved.

My two year old G/D loves to watch her papaw go through coins. Have to watch her though she really likes the silver dollars and she will try to grab and run.

Thanks for sharing a great story My seven year old grand daughter likes shiny coins so I have a supply of new Lincolns for her. Luckily she doesn't like my icky 179x copper.

Glad to see that yet another person has become interested in the hobby. Even though they are not worth much, the Steel cents fascinate me for some reason.
