Hello Forum members,

I am wondering what grade you should give this coin? My opinion is EF. And I am also wondering how you call the small dents in the edge of the coin? Is this couse of striking or jewelery? How does it called?

Hope to hear from you,

Best regards,
Vincent

Hi Vincent. My guess is that the marks, as you've suggested, might be due to a jewellery mount that has been removed.

As to grade, these coins aren't really my area, but I would suggest a bit lower grade. These crowns were quite well struck with good detail and can have a fair amount of wear and still look good. But I will let more experienced British members here give the final say as exactly how much wear you can get but still consider it EF I'm not sure.

This coin is a bit dull on the high points, so it prevents an uncirculated grade.
EF or perhaps gEF.
Mine ain't half as nice!

Thank you both for your reaction! Does the small dents in the edge effect alot to the grade? If you want to put it in an auction?

Auction houses won't accept it due to the damage.
I would suggest it is worth bullion and not a collectors item.

Bit of a mystery that an auction house would not accept it.
I see no reason at all why this coin cannot be auctioned with a full, accurate and truthful description.
There are buyers at ALL price levels.

If I were to describe this coin as an auction lot, I would look closely, edge on, at his coin, before deciding on an estimate.
