Looks as if the 'LI' in Liberty is affected as well.
Thru grease error?

I think its probably zinc rotting from within, and its affecting the exterior of the coin. A Lot of creeping zinc rot, some of which is surfacing around the rim. I am not a big fan of zinc cents just because of this sort of self-destruction happening... = |

Zinc annodes = Zincoln Cents? Seems so I've been noticing greasers now so more than ever. I suppose they've been around forever, but I never took enough time to investigate -

They always look neat to new collectors. Give it to them. watch their eyes light up. That last one I would keep with more than 80% of the design missing. I've got one with about 95% missing.

Coop - do you have a pic?
Grease seems to be more prevalent on the obverse, but I see many later LMCs with reverse issues (e.g. 1983). I was wondering if that might be connected to a hammer vs. an anvil; moving vs. stationary.

That's pretty significant! Did you pick that out of circulation?

Actually I bought it off ebay. At the time I thought it might be a low pressue strike. Later on I figured it out it was a real strong struck through error. (grease) On a low pressure strike it should have looked like this:

I like the unusual - Cool stuff Coop! I figured you'd have a pic or two. Without knowing much, I did note that the rim on the LMC was pretty defined.
