Hi There, This is the first time I have participated in any type of forum, so please bear with me. I have been hoarding coins for many years and recently started sorting them out to see what I have. I came across a weird Lincoln Penny stamped only on one side, the side that seems to be copper. The other side is blank but looks to be steel and it is attracted by a magnet. Photographs are attached. I don't know what this is and there is no date and I'd love to hear any suggestions, comments or information on this coin other members may have. I am having a problem attaching the photographs so let me know what I'm doing wrong if you care to and have a moment. Thank you. Dave Edited by Davefromthecountry 03/30/2014 2:48 pm

Hi Dave - welcome to the forum! Pic size has to be under 100kb, so shrink the image down editing out clutter and it should help.

I quit. No more time left. I simply can't get a photograph loaded, without which the post is useless. Sorry about that and thanks Rackster for the reply...I did it, but it still didn't work.

Hi Dave - have a go at it later. I did see one member struggle to load a pic and they were quite seasoned. Just may be an unlucky glitch that'll clear and allow you to post later. Otherwise, some of the forum experts can let you know potentially what you have there. Good luck!!

Dave - might be part of a Magician's coin for tricks or Tails-Tails coin. The inside of one cent is milled out and then another tails from another coin is inserted. Just a guess on my part.

I thought of that and that may be true, but the inside is not copper, it is steel...steel coloured anyway, while the reverse side sure looks like the thousands of other pennies I have....the photograph does not show the shiny silvery colour which it is...the colour of a knife blade for example. If the penny had been milled out the inside would be copper and it is not, so I respectfully suggest it is not milled out. Maybe someone can come up with another suggestion?

The coin is a cent made after 1982. It is copper plated zinc which is a white metal.

It is an altered coin. They used to put a dime into the back of the coin and it would look like a cent one way, flip it over in their hand and it would be a dime.

Quote: but the inside is not copper, it is steel The insertion of a small steel disc would allow for the magnetic attachment of two coin halves.
