Hi all, as I succumb to a bit of granny bait every now and then, I keep my eye out for certain RAM coin releases. But, I just don't understand how a variety of coin dealers can offer a coin for sale before it hits the RAM website.

As far as I can make out, the 2014 one dollar circulating coin will be the ANZAC design and the mint set has a coloured one dollar coin, so I am guessing there may not be a normal MOR isued for 2014.

But then Downies and few other coin dealers have the Berlin World Money Fair RAM $1 MOR AL-Br proof coin on sale - and this isn't on the RAM website.

I realise that a proof coin is a lot different to NCLT coins and far removed from circulating coins, but if there is only going to be a limited number (2014) of 2014 MOR one buck coins then why isn't the RAM website promoting it?

I'm thinking that an edition of 2014 would make this MOR proof a fairly attractive coin to have. What do you people think?

The standard MOR $1 proof is available as part of the annual Wedding Set.

Paying $40 for an individual coin may seem reasonable when compared to the cost of a set, but bear in mind that precious metal can be had for not much more - on the plus side, mintage of just 2014...

I'm still to figure out why we can't just have an annual set that reflects the circulation coins released during that year, available either in an uncirculated or proof finish.

I think you'll find that some 'really bright spark' at RAM figured out that if collectors were forced to buy up to 3 different types of 'Mint Sets' each year to get the coins they wanted, it would mean a heap more profit for the Gov'mint.

That same 'really bright spark' most likely got a huge promotion or at least a nice bonus.

I just ordered the Downies coin, comes to nearly $50 with postage.
Defiantly a better option than buying the wedding set and doubling up on the other proof coins.
My 2014 copper/nickel gilded Proof $1 came back from PCGS at PR69DC and all the other coins are the same quality so I really don't need to buy the wedding set just for one coin
