May I show you this half dollar dated 1801. Only two die varieties exist for the year, this is the scarcer O-102. The coin is ex-Stacks where it was described as VF, if I remember correctly.
The coin is nicely toned, and the obverse bears faint adjustments marks, not uncommon on these coins. In addition you will notice some slight rim nicks primarily visible on the reverse.
How would you grade this coin? Do you think the rim disturbances are serious enough to preclude a clean grade?

The color in the last set of pictures is closer to the true tone of the coin.

Thank you, as usual for your comments and opinions.

Wow! Amazing like always. I'll say VF-30. I don't think the rim problems will hurt it or give it a details grade.
Feel free to call me Will.

Thank you, all.

Thedollarman, I appreciate your assessment that the slight rim damage
will not result in a details grade. I hope you are correct.

(I hadn't realized the difference in tone between the pictures I posted - as said, the true tone is that in the photos with the red background).

It may have had a long ago cleaning. The reverse fields kind of tell me that and the pinkish tone.

Nonetheless, another impressive coin GERMANICVS!

I think closer to VF25, but above that.

It seems that there can be a variation in the softness (or hardness) of the silver in various parts of the coin across a sample number of them.
That makes fine grading between VF25 an VF30 a bit variable as well.
