Here is something I don't see all day, and I would have never caught it if it wasn't for the smaller microscope and the LED light.

About 6 months ago, I spent a pretty hefty amount of money buying coins from an agency that confiscated a pawn/coin shop. Amongst the things I purchased were about 14 of the 1986 Ellis Island Commemoratives. I think I have an equal amount in proof and MS.

Take a look at this date and tell me if you see anything funky with it, or are all that were minted look that way ? I have a few that have a very tiny separation, and then I have a few, like this one that have a wider separation. I have 1-2 others that even more separated. I'll see if I can shoot a pic of those, if time permits.

John,

These pics are taken off my AmScope microscope.
I am using a Canon Rebel T3i Camera Body and an AmScope microscope adapter for the Canon camera. You take out an eye piece, slide the camera attachment into the microscope and have high quality - 18 Megapixel picture. They have to be downsized by nearly 8-10 times. Pictures untouched are close to 5500x3500 pixels in size, nearly 8 MB per pic.

I'll post a separate post today about the setup I am using

I think this is a DDO. Do all of them look like this one, or is just this one different? If others are normal, you might make a side by side of the devices to see if they are wider/taller or the same size. Make sure to include one device on each side to have a reference point to make the images the same width. The images are close up with the single ones, the areas in question maybe real minor, but look stronger because they are larger?

according to the spreadsheet I keep, I have 14 MS versions of the coin, and 10 of the proof versions. I'll have to go to the safe and pull out the boxes all of the others are in. Let me see if I can get to that today.

If I remember correctly, the Proof versions look like the date is incused, where the MS version is not. So, I will concentrate just on the MS versions.

I've shot other coins with the same microscope today, so it will be a tall order to get the same exact height, but I will attempt something that is close. I know I have a few with no separation and a few with a wider separation. The MS variety were shipped in a roll container, raw, ungraded, so I am no sure if they were boxed at one time or not.

I have put most in 2x2 mylars but I will crack a few out and shoot the pics and put them back in mylars. I have plenty of those, no big deal.

No, only 3 of the MS versions look like this. I'll send it in to a TPG. I have a few more to make 20, so these will be included.
