Surfaces don't look right. I wouldn't spend money on it.

Coin looks to have been cleaned at some point. I can't say much on the matter of the edge, it's your call.

I'm not in the market for it, does a reeded/lettered edge variety exist?

Reeded edge didn't come into play until 1836. Anyway, if the Seller thought he had a "rare" coin why doesn't he get it TPG'd and really rake in some big bucks at one of the big auction houses?

Maybe the coin is a time traveller!

Nothing surprises me on ebay anymore. I just don't think the color looks right and I've never heard of a reeded edge half before 1836. So, based on the color not looking right, the weird toning around the devices and the weird reeding I'd give it a high probability of being a coin that has "questionable authenticity".

I don't see why it would be called a reeded edge because it's not a reeded edge. I'm having difficulty seeing the details of the edge but the so called 'reeded edge' only covers parts of the edge. It looks like it's the result of a Castaing machine problem in applying the edge lettering. Or maybe PMD? Just my humble rookie opinion.

Despite the fact that this seller lives in California, he should change his name from "Coinwizard" to "Coinblizzard" .... That misleading title is a snow job! This one looks to me like a Chinese piece.

I must admit: I didn't pick it as a probable fake. ? perhaps a die struck, hubbed off an original coin?
It is quite possible for a faker to make both reeded and lettered collars, and use them both on the same planchet. However, I don't know why they would use both, one after the other.
A 'collar' in this case is pair of straight line dies, and the planchet is rolled under pressure between them, as they proceed in opposite directions.
I have a good book that explains these processes in detail.

I don't remember what year they started but some of the later bust halves had weak reeding between the lettering on the edge dies. I don't have my copy of Overton readily at hand.

I don't know much about this particular coin, but the reeding seems to be at various angles.

Sorry folks. I did a copy/paste from the ebay listing.

Whatever it is the coin looks "funny". Color and toning around the letters/devices all look unnatural. I think it's counterfeit but TPG might prove otherwise.

Interesting coin. But, it appears to me someone added "reeding" to the edge of this coin.
Interesting, but no thanks.
