With 42 varieties it's a tall order to attribute any of the late dates with out the coin in hand, even with the book, which I'm just learning. I find any coin under EF40 grades is neigh impossible to tell either. There are around 11 tougher R4+ and better in 1851 however.

Exactly what westcoin said. If there aren't any die markers on your coin, then it can be very difficult.

i hate braided hair cents, too many varieties that all look pretty much the same, more or less. I will do some more research on the coin and post here again sometime in the future.

I don't collect them, per se, I do sell them , but the problem is the best books are not even attainable at reasonable prices. Grellmans book you can't even get!?
I can't believe in this day an age someone hasn't made some kind of online reference. It would be cheaper I would bet, and the masses would have access.

you can get Grellmans book for $100 but even if you have the book it is not easy to attribute the coins. I was looking at your coin and trying to find some markers on it but the magnification does not seem large enough. It could be an 11 or 12 or 20,22 by the date position. Hard to say from the pics.
