So....there I was sitting at my desk when the phone rang. It was a teller at a local bank who I've befriended and has agreed to help me out. He said, "Hey, I just had a guy drop off 20 half dollar rolls! I'm holding them for you." I ran over to the bank, thanked the teller and sped home with anticipation! Got the kids to bed and sat down to open the first roll. Noooooooo! It was a full roll of 1976 bicentennials!! I thought, that it's statistically not likely to happen randomly, but I didn't give up hope. Then, the next roll.....a full roll of 1972's......agh! Someone dumped in my territory! I felt like it was a combination of the babyruth bar scene in the movie Caddyshack (ya know poop in the pool) mixed with territorial gang warfare like the movie Colors. Hahaha. I've been so careful to dump way outside of my immediate neighborhood. Driving extra far to get the searched coins as far away as possible. Well, I just want you to know, whoever you are, it's on! Clint Eastwood style! Me versus you! ;-)

It was probably someone's old hoard. A CRHer probably wouldn't be bothered to put each coin by year in the rolls if they are just going to dump them. I wouldn't be to concerned unless it happens again. I'd say take advantage of this if they are BU and check for varieties.

Sucks to be you dude! LOL. Just kidding, regardless, the bicentennial is the most un-sought-after coin of the realm. I save them for my 23. Cousin twenty-five times removed in the future. Good luck.

I always buy them all. I've found dozens of solid silver rolls that way.

Quote: A CRHer probably wouldn't be bothered to put each coin by year in the rolls if they are just going to dump them. If by dump you mean take to the bank to get more or cash for them, then no, But I always track EVERY half in the box to work on stats of hold long it takes to fill my Whitman folders. Easiest way is to roll them by year and mm. But I label the outside of the roll in marked to note the roll has been checked or the year/mm if it is a full roll. My method of dumping this marked wrapper rolls is to spend them at stores and most often they open them and discard the wrapper. So if you are near me and happen to have ones with marked wrappers, then blame the store for depositing coins! If anyone mentions finding the ones I marked the wrappers, then I know who it is that has been dumping in my stream too! I doubt they would re-wrap a roll being all one year that they just opened if it was mine, and the ONLY roll of 76 I spent the cashier bought off the drawer. Well she pocketed them and paid the drawer for my purchase from her pocket book so I guess she bought them from me so they never ended up in the drawer. Doubtful it is mine then since I still have every 76 half I have touched save for those 2 rolls. Glad you have a teller that will call you. I have been trying to tell mine that is all they have to do is call me and tell me when they have them and I will come take them off their hands so they don't have to bother with them.

They were brown rolls. No marks on them. REALLY crummy coins... I just thought it was funny that I got so excited! When my teller buddy actually called me I figured the planets had all aligned for me! Hahaha
Yeah, I actually have befriended about 5 tellers in the area who will either set stuff aside for me or call me when something comes in. I think striking up conversations with the tellers is 50% of the fun in CHRing! It's fun winning them over!

Well the dump someone made near me has 2 82s in it so I was happy. it finished a roll worth of them for me. It is the small quantities that they have that often yield the best because it is just some that will have been sitting around and might be silver. That is how I got my silver in customer deposited rolls and loose ones.
but the rule of thumb is to take all halves and Ikes cause you enver know what is in them....
The problem is when you strike that conversation with the teller to find out he is a CRH too and probably is already taking things out of your stream there and then... I guess you have to break-up with that teller and find a new bank so you have a chance at finding something?

Call me a jerk if you want to.....but there are these 2 kids who used to go to my order bank and take all my stuff. I conned my teller friend to harass them a little and not be helpful ordering them stuff. So....i found out they go to a fifth third outh of me. So I take ALL my dump change there. To add suspense, I keep all my really old tattered rollers, and make it look like an old hoard of silver. I told the teller that a family member of mine passed and had THOUSANDS in old change and I am slowly cashing it in. I have dumped probably 15000 so far, and never see these 2 anymore by me. ALL IS FAIR WHEN YOUR TALKIN ABOUT SILVER!!
