Here are my finds from my first attempt at CRH! Not sure if this is a good loot, average, or poor, but I had a great time!
Searched - $460 in halves, $150 dimes, $50 nickels, $15 pennies.
Found - 1969 Half Dollar (first roll!!)
"Speckled" 1978 Half Dollar (Don't know if this is special, but I think it looks cool!!)
1938 D Wheat penny
1945 D Wheat penny
1956 D Wheat penny X2
2009 D Lincoln Penny (with man standing pointing at Illinois Capitol Building) x4
2009 D Lincoln Penny (with man sitting on log reading)
2009 D Lincoln Penny (log cabin) X3
Please let me know if any of these are of great value, or if they are worthless, teach me! I am willing to learn! :)

Hi Maselyk â€" welcome to the mix!

Modest value on most the items, but there are several sites and texts that can give you a ballpark figure, especially ebay for going rates on multigrades of a same coin. Mintage, condition, demand all affect pricing and value. And to many collectors, interest has a weighted value (the spots on your '78). I'm certain many of the members here have a coin or two of little numismatic value but sentimental value. I have a 1909 Lincoln Cent that is not even an AG rating, but I found it 10" deep on a beach in Hyannis MA when I was 14 years old â€" I proudly have that in my second set of LWC/LMC/LSCs.

Have a look here at CCF and around the internet. Ask tons of questions and delight the folks here with cool pics of your finds. Enjoy the hobby!!
Rest in Peace

The man is, "The Man, Abe Lincoln."
We all started somewhere. Enjoy the hunt.

First attempt and you got the one I am missing.

Not a bad haul. The 1978 is a low mintage, speckled or not. it is less than 20 million minted and I just finished my roll of them with my 10th box ($500) of halves

I need this one too! You might want to check your nickels again for pre-1960. Those are popular for people to hold onto, and also the S mint mark for ANY coins seems popular. Not really sure right now which nickels, but pennies that are not wheat would be 1968~1974. Any halves with an S are proofs, as are quarters and dimes.

happy hunting!

YOU ARE ADDICTED! ! !

That being said... IMHO after a year of CRH... for me that would be a bad day... OK the 1969 40% half is a nice SMILE moment... but just a moment. It's silver and it's great...

The only reason I'm telling you this is not a GREAT load is because you have MUCH BETTER coming
I remember a box of dimes that gave me 4 silvers... and I think one of them was a 1955 KEY DATE... never know what you will find

KEEP AT IT!

"Speckled" 1978 Half Dollar... PMD junk... dump it... unless it has an S mint mark

Thanks for the support guys! it was alot of fun and I will definitely be doing it again soon. $290 of the halves were from wells fargo, and were mint wrapped, I had a bad feeling about them and of course, skunked on all those rolls, still had a blast doing it! I am going to be doing alot of travelling in the coming weeks, and I plan to pick up a couple boxes of coins from small town banks. Those seem to be what alot of people seem to be finding an abundance of good coins in!

A small town bank can have the same source as Wells Fargo... but diversity is always the best plan.

Haha, ASLAN, you sound like your hooked, might be time for an intervention... :P What banks do you find most luck with? I know its hit or miss, but if you had to choose between a credit union, wells fargo, local small town banks, what would be your choice? and why?

I have never found a nickel older than a buff... my oldest dime find is a 1917 merc... I get them from a rural type bank and also a local type bank.

Flip the coin .. roll the dice... it's all down to random chance

That sounds like a good start. I plan on getting my first box of nickels this week. I heard there's not too much in dimes and quarters. And I can't afford a 500$ box of halves sadly lol.

I definitely know how that is NJcoinhunter! Definitely wish I had a bunch of money put away that I could use to pick up multiple boxes at once, but no luck! Need to start saving for a rainy day fund so I can get a couple boxes of halves and maybe a bag of dimes. I haven't seen much posted about people having bags. Has anyone tried bags before? and if so did you have any luck?

Keep going! The way I see it, any box with silver, proofs, or an error is a "win". Heck, Ill even include NIFC in the "win" category! I've only ever had one box that didn't have any of those. However, I've had a couple boxes with a bunch, so my average is way more than 1 silver per box. Keep hunting! In my humble opinion, mixing it up is the way to go. I usually do 3 half boxes a week, and all the nickel and cent bags I can get my hands on. Keeps it interesting!!
