Hi Everyone, I have come across a largish american coin from 1799 with a profile of Lady Liberty on the one side and an eagle on the other. I'm clueless, I am also in Japan. Can anyone give me any other information about this coin? It does seem to be rather rare! Thanks

Hi there,
Every picture I try to put on here is too large! I can't mess with file sizes and what not. However, I did look it up and it seems to be a liberty coin! Or I also see being called a draped bust silver dollar! I'll try find a picture... Thanks for getting back to me! :)

When you click "Reply to topic", on that page there is a link to the Free Image Optimizer to help with resizing. It saves it to your hard drive.

They are pretty good actually. Do you know its weight and size? because parts of the reverse design look a little off from this sample:

Looks to be a 1799 American silver dollar? We will need better pics to verify if it is real or not though. If it is real then that's a nice coin you've got there

It's around 5cm in diameter. Wouldn't have a clue of the weight - it's pretty heave though!

Just know that these things are counterfeited like crazy. About 98% of the people on here starting new posts about a silver dollar from the 1700's that they have are counterfeits. ESPECIALLY if they are in another country. So I wouldn't get excited just yet. I think the date looks off on yours as well as some of the lettering but the pictures aren't very good and I don't know much about these. If it is a counterfeit it looks like one of the better ones

It should be 39-40mm and 27 grams. 5cm or 50mm sounds bad

Don't know why the 2nd one is so small. And I made a boo-boo, it is actually exactly 39 cm in diameter! I measured from the 1, not the 0 - don't judge me! How exciting!

The coin looks a bit off to me. I cannot pass judgement without weight.
