I just picked me up a "with Cents" type Liberty nickel for my 7070 Collection and wanted to see what the CCF Members had to say about her in comparison to PCGS.

Thank you for your interest and comments!

Very Nice John! RPD too FS-301 I believe.

An easy PR64 with a shot at CAM or a CAC green bean I'd think, just a couple of hairlines keep it from full gem 66, I also see a touch of strike through (wire)? In the hair/forehead area. Beautiful coin.

I'm looking at the coin in the full image size on photobucket, here on CCF I'd say it's an easy PR66 but those two hairline scratches one on each side plus the strike though would keep it at a 64 grade, maybe a 65. This is so close to a CAM but I don't know PCGS and Liberty nickels in proof with CAM designations, so I'll say no.

Nice observation on the "wire strike through" Chriss! I have always wanted a Proof Classic Coin and this one was within reach.

Rest in Peace

My first thought: Duuuude! That RPD is strong on the 1. I did not notice the wire strike though until westcoin pointed it out . I would guess PCGS gave it a PR65.

Hey,

The coin in the PCGS holder appears to have a more true nickel color (at least on my computer screen) while the first set of photos posted in this thread appears to be more brownish colored.

What accounts for this difference?

Also if this coin had turned out to actually be more of a brown color in real life, could this color aberration have adversely affected the grade in any way?

I sold several Proof Liberty nickels to a young couple as they were classic coins in high grade they could afford, these look fantastic and generally run well under the $500 price point, with many around $300

Color should not affect a grade only strike and or wear should factor into grading, a nice color might make it more attractive and darker brown as you asked would not help the coin any, but it shouldn't make much of a difference in grading, but in reality we all know it does seem to, at least in eye appeal and getting those CAC green beans applied.

Light rose and lavender, hints of yellow, light aquamarine blues, are colors I love to see on old classic Proofs, nothing too heavy is best.

The OP image is an image from PCGS CoinFacts, while the slab version is from Heritage so I would lean towards the PCGS image being more accurate. The coin is going to be delivered today...hopefully.

Well played! The only problem I see with adding this to your 7070 set is it will lead to more upgrades of other types.

that is a real "wow" coin. Darkly toned proof nickel is just gorgeous. What an addition to the 7070.
