I just got back from the Whitman Expo in Baltimore, a very exciting show that draws thousands of people from Northern Virginia, DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding states. I like to go to shows, not so much to buy, but to get a pulse of how the industry is doing and to meet and develop lasting relationships with dealers and collectors.

By far the most interesting part of the show this time for me was the Stack's Bowers Symposium featuring Harvey and Larry Stack and Q. David Bowers. The three took questions for about an hour and talked about a range of numismatic topics. I even got a question in (although, I'm not so sure they answered it precisely...)

If you'd like to read my run down on the proceedings, click the link below. I'll also answer any questions you guys might have about the meeting and the show in this thread.

Thanks for sharing cc.

Q. David Bowers is a busy guy authoring books and attending coin shows. I picked up his latest book on Double Eagles since you mentioned it in your last write-up write-up.

that double eagle book is certainly worth picking up. I spent about three hours talking to Robert Galiette (co-writer) about it. His coins are the featured coins in the book- probably the most significant gold specialized set every completed. What they were going for with the book- explaining money in the context of American history and how the California gold fueled America's growth into a hegemonic power is great context.

I have a few more books on my docket to read: two ANS books I picked up (Copper 1783-1857; Money of the Confederation Period) + Moy's bullion book and Hyder and Shevlin's Charbneau So-Called Dollars.

I'd like to write something about all of them if I have time.
