that double eagle book is certainly worth picking up. I spent about three hours talking to Robert Galiette (co-writer) about it. His coins are the featured coins in the book- probably the most significant gold specialized set every completed. What they were going for with the book- explaining money in the context of American history and how the California gold fueled America's growth into a hegemonic power is great context.
I have a few more books on my docket to read: two ANS books I picked up (Copper 1783-1857; Money of the Confederation Period) + Moy's bullion book and Hyder and Shevlin's Charbneau So-Called Dollars.
