Zodiac. Similar in design to some Song and Yuan Dynasty types I've seen - though not quite as worn as most. If anyone has an opinion or even better a reference for tis piece, would be much appreciated.
A standard reference work on such pieces is "Metal Charms and Amulets of China" by Edgar J. Mandel. His classification system, which sorts basically by the number and types of characters and other objects that appear on the charm, is also used on the zeno.ru Chinese Charms pages.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
Interesting piece, top shape of a pagoda, the 1st pic has the character 'Sun" and the 2nd pic has the character 'Moon'. It has images of the 12 animals and the hours on the first pic again, can't quite make out what is on the side of the 'Moon'.
