Has anyone done a complete BU book of franklins? I was just crunching numbers and paying premium I'm about 200 bucks away from completing mine.. And three proofs to make it difinitive.. Goal is: 1950-1963 proofs two slots for 1956 ty1&2 and then 1948-1963 pds with extra slot for 1959ty1&2 the proofs I figure will take around 6-7 and the BU mint state coins about 250-300 have a few au coins to turn back in give me about a little back.. This has to be the most amazing group of coins I have 15 of 18 proofs and 27 of 36 Used a dansco 7165 with a extra half dollars page have aptly named this treasure trove of america awesomeness the definitive franklin collection!! I cannot wait to finish it and do a full photo spread!!

rupester - That's a great set. Bravo to you for your efforts in putting it together!
I have not done the BU yet but have a complete circulated album with some pretty nice specimens. However, I did not pay much more than spot for what I have so take it for what it's worth (which is total awesomeness if I do say so myself :) ).
Good luck with yours!

Thanks Celtic, this has been a labor of love it really has IRONY MOMENT, My first coin that"hooked" me was a 1955 Bugs bunny die clash I took it into a LCS qnd the guy looked it over and confirmed it. Since that coin I am on 55 bugs #3 for some reason myself and that die clash coin have a destiny to unite. I have seen non bugs on ebay but everytime the LCS throws em out I end up with a bugs hahaha think I am going to leave the bugs #3 its actually the best of the 3 I wonder if anyone will notice I have a die clash 55 in there...hahaha I actually dont consider it to be the "gem" with the clash havent found any other die clashed years just 1955... I find this weird...

I love franklins. Your set is a task to be sure if you are buyings UNCs with FBLs or close. THe early proofs get pricey esp if you don't want a hazy one. The type 1 proof from 56 is tough to find without spending an arm and leg (and for me at least down right impossible to find in a Cameo designation). BTW there is also a T1 and T2 for 1958... just thought I would let you know.

I would enjoy seeing photos of your set. I am content with the set I accumulated mostly from circulation in the 60's but have been focusing on cameo proofs for an additional series.

I've got several Whitman Albums full of those. Mostly all from Change from back when those were in change. None are what I'd call Unc but most are close. Someday I'll try to upgrade one of those sets to all Unc.

Started my Franklin set a few months ago, going for as BU as I can, down to just ten coins left. After completed I'll go for the proofs, starting at 63 and work my way back as far as I can. Really do enjoy the coins, they look nice in the Dansco, all though airtites for the proofs for me.

Ffrroms224, the 1958 ty1&2 thats a new one for me dont know how I didnt know that looked it up and sure enough and they seem to be rare what all do you know about these 2? Are the proof or circulation strike, I assume the 1959 proof reverse wandered into the mint in late 58?
Sure enough wow 5% of coins is the estimate for the 1958 type 2 reverse

In 1958 and 1959 some business strike Franklin halves have the proof reverse. It is easiest to spot on the eagle. There have always been rumors that this happened in 1960 to 1963, however, I am yet to see one I believe in. I have seen "one" but without closer examination, I still believe it to be a 1960 impaired proof. Be very cautious when buying a 1958 type 1 (weak eagle) as these range from terrible to excellent in strike quality.
