Krause makes errors. Everyone knows that. They are actually reporting values paid for counterfeits in this case by who knows who. But they do not make a bad coin good.

Much of the market for these newer fantasies that "should exist but do not" is something that should be stamped OUT. These coins should NEVER be sold by any ANA member or dealer because they clearly violate ethics rules and anyone dealing in them - I don't care who it is - should be reported to the ANA for sanction. That is the only way to stop this illegitimate trade in modern Numismatic Forgeries. Anyone who owns these should also clearly mark them ON THE COIN - COPY.

These are no different and just because of Krause they should NOT be considered collectable varieties.

Numismat and others just to reinforce how ridiculous these Counter marks look. In the course of writing to Krause I reviewed my copy of Unusual world coins( 5th Edition) I found these coins listed(It is particularly bizarre when Krause dates the Hejaz countermarks to 1916-1924):

Hejaz X 11 through to X18:
X11 is on a base coin produced after 1935( London Mint) X13 is on a Rome mint coin produced after 1935 and given the typical die crack closer to 1938. X 15 is also on a Rome mint base coin (post 1935). Only X 14 has any thing like true face validity in this case the base coin is a Venice mint strike of the 1840s.

Nejd X14.2 through X20 X 14.2 is on a post 1960s Base coin it actually looks like it is a 1980s strike.

Pemba X-17 through X-18 X 18 is described incorrectly Guenzburg ( not Gunzburg in German the "U" has an umlaut so to pronounce the name correctly in English it is best to add the letter "e") . Guenzburg never produced that form of the MTT. From the photo all I can say it is a modern re-strike ( post 1853)

Good Day, all! I have read that there was a forger in Spain who created a number of these fake counterstamps and even had a pictured price list. That would be an important piece of documentation on these, more recent, MTT fakes. Would anyone happen to have seen a copy of that?

The face book group "Monedas Españolas: Reproducciones y Falsificaciones (Fake Spanish Coins)" Has copies of that book in their files section. Problem with that book is it mixes genuine with fake.

I own a copy of the "book" and I discussed it on ppgs 186-89 of my book on counterfeit portrait 8Rs.

I got my copy on ebay ca 2012 but they have been around for a while. The contents vary because it is a Xerox production and they alter the contents with the availability of fake stamps. I have seen other versions.

The title is "Catalogo Marcas, Resellos y Contramarcas".

My copy is a 64 page single fold Xerox copy black and white with a color cardstock cover. There is a bibliography of legitimate source books but individual citations when used with coin illustrations are often deceptively.

In my copy there are 182 entries (138 are illustrated). Many illustrations appear more tan once and my copy has 2 identical pages (59 and 60). There are only 5 different prices associated with the various types. Of the 182 entries 152 have a price of $500. There is a single entry of $100 for a normal 8R with chop marks which is far too high. There are 6 coins with a $300 price - all common. There are 22 coins priced at $1000 and only one at $3000.

These prices are inaccurate and bear no resemblance to any reputable catalog value.

The sellers (who have not posted on ebay since I published my book) were all from Spain and they usually placed the coin they were selling on top of the page of the book showing the same counter-stamp. Comparing the stamp on the coin being sold with the catalog entry was always an exact match and the book price was always visible.

Many buyers were taken by this dodge.
