If you are in the 5th congressional district, you may be eligible for a free Vietnam, Korea, or WW2 commemorative coin.

Unfortunately, it looks like only ww2 and VN vets;
Brown-Waite already has presented more than 250 commemorative coins to eligible veterans. To be eligible, veterans must live in the district, have been honorably discharged from military service and have served in either World War II or the Vietnam War.

Keller said the coin is a token of respect for veterans who served the country in both conflicts.

The congresswoman is using her campaign funds to pay for the coins.

Interested veterans should contact Brown-Waite's Brooksville office, 352-799-8354, to get the necessary forms.

Outstanding! But why are the Korean War Vets being left out? They are always being left out.

The artical does mention Korean Vets but it's more like a passing thought. The Korean War seems like the war that no one wants to admit happened. It's very strange. It's hard to even find out what the real casualites were. They range anywhere from 23,000 to 54,000 with 33,000 being the most common figure. Any of the figures, which ever one it really is, is still a horrendous figure. Even more so when you consider how many experienced WWll Vets fought there.

How about vets..period.. I served from '79-82. I was almost shipped out to Germany as Iran was overthrown. After we werer recalled and didnt have to go. We went to Washington state for more Training (Combat and Survival). was there for 1 month and left 1 day before Mt St Helens blew her cork.(1980).I am in Florida but 2 hrs from Wally World (Orlando).
What really gets me..(I dont care about a Medal, I know what I have done) is when I was filling out applications and going on interviews I could not claim any veterans preference because I did not "serve" in any U.S. conflict.Now this was before "Desert Storm" and the Gulf War and now Iraq. I do believe the criteria has changed for the younger vets that fall in after Vietnam but can now Include the Current and recent past "Conflicts". Still no concession for us vets between Vietnam and Desert Storm.
