I think it is quite unusual to see the vast array of opinions here. In the past when I have posted grading questions everyone pretty much agrees in a much smaller range. This time it goes from scrap to AU. Definitely makes me wonder.

This is the biggest problem with a cleaned coin, it makes it look much better than it's true grade, and value. A ef 45 trends for 75.00, at large coin shows you can buy for around 50.00. what would you pay for this cleaned example

I don't think it's the grade disparity that's the problem here. I just don't think anyone agrees on the value of a cleaned coin. If it was a 37, maybe closer to melt but from experience even problem coins from the 30 do much better then melt. 38 is popular coin to buy in any condition and it will sell for significantly higher than 15 bucks. Assuming that ANY cleaned/problem coin out there is worth scrap, is incorrect. Albeit we would all agree it significantly devalues the coin. If I could only find a cleaned 21 5 cent piece at scrap. Sigh....

Yes, but the 38 dollar is not a 47 maple leaf or a 48 key date coin or even a 1945 dollar, if you can buy a problem free ef 45 for 50.00, what would you pay for a cleaned one, anyway just my thoughts, good luck

Well it's not a 66 dollar either. You're asking a dealer what he would pay for a coin, that's never a good question. What I am saying is that this coin will retail significantly higher then melt. I would say it would sell double melt(as stated in my post above). Have a look at ebay sales numbers. Below is one example, but there a few other "problem" coins that sold in that range. Even a polished VF ICCS coin sold over 45. BTW, I'm not sure why "good luck". Not my original post and not my coin. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Low-Mintage...em2c7cbff52c

Bad typing, what I was meaning to say was this coin is a grade of ef 45 or so trends for around 75.00 and that you can buy at any show for around 50.00 for a problem free example. You will never find key dates mid grades dollars at 50.00 and the good luck comment was meant for the original poster, my mistake.
