I this coin would do well on e-bay but not sure if it's worth a slab next time I send a batch to PCGS/NGC.

Coin looks good to me - as far as the picture size allows.

I am always concerned by these because there are so many really great forgeries of this series. I always advise authentication in person as the only reliable way to treat these coins.

marbury518 - you are correct that the coin would likely do well on ebay - but if you post it you will absolutely need much better pictures. Russian coins are often copied most particularly the higher grades with no rim knocks.

Got it from HD Rauch in Germany who have a very good rep....and who had a specialist Russian auction....that's why I took the chance....I will probably get it slabbed by PCGS....only problem is that the turn around is so slow it makes it difficult to return fakes x months later....high risk high reward I guess.......if it comes back a 58 I expect to get 4 times what I paid for it.....if I have to sell that is....marbury

I know gradeflation is a fact of life - but the coin has significant high point wear see especially the high point wear on the "flowers" on the eagles' necks. On an AU I would expect to find only minimal wear here - this series was well struck. The closest graded example I located on Heritage was an NGC AU53 that I thought was given a very generous grade. Based on the remaining mint luster which is primarily in protected areas I would say EF-45 is far more appropriate. PCGS would give a better indicator of true grade but if they go to AU58 I will have to start to wonder about them as well.

That's a beauty. I love the reverse design. Here is my 1877 not nearly nice but still love it.

Just paid for it today so when in hand I will post some better scans.....and yes, I love the reverse design too. Can anyone tell me the weights for Roubles from 1818-1922? I have an opportunity to bid on a group but want to weigh them at viewing....
