Hey guys so I'm relatively new to the world of coin collecting and I came across this 1952-S Wheat penny and I was wondering if what I see are errors or figure out it usual or unusual. So I posted some pics. To me it seems like the Mintmark "S" is waaaay to close to the date, but I could be wrong. Also if you look at the "2" in 1942 you'll see the bottom of the 2 is bent upwards. Its kinda crazy . I've never seen a date like that. So any help I can get on this I would greatly appreciate.

not an error, the date has been damaged by a counting/rolling machine

Note: I am no expert I would wait for second opinion

i but had something like that once but was on the end of a bu bank roll and the wrapping machine pushed it. But I don't see a circular scratch leading up to it.

The 2 digit has been damaged while the position of the mintmark is not unusual. Mintmarks were hand-punched on each working die until 1989 so minor positional variation is to be expected.

Scroll down to the photos for that year.

Looks like you have the tall S. Don't know if that makes any difference .... but it's fun to see the different mint marks.
