I've dabbled in coin collecting for a long time. Years ago, I only collected because of value, I figured my coins would be worth something someday, so I put them away as I found them in circulation....none where bought. Funny thing, I totally FORGOT about these! Tonight I went rummaging through our storage area for "the box", since I've gotten a renewed interest with the inheritance of my grandfathers coins. OH BOY! I had quite the jackpot of stuff! Wife said "I wondered why that box was so heavy?", since she was the last to touch it. What I've sorted though so far: - Ton's of Wheaties, 40, 50's and a few older, almost all EF - Ton's of Linc Mem pennies, 60's and 70's, an entire tube of 1964's in MS with full, original luster (look like new) - Dime, Nickels, Halves, dollars, foreign coins...have yet to sort though - A few Silver Cert bills and foreign currency - Ancient Chinese coins from my deceased Uncle's collection I'm so excited, I can't believe I had all these coins stashed away for years. Nothing like finding a hoard in your own house! LOL I'll post more finds as I get though these as I just started sorting 2-3 hours ago and I'm only half way though them.

Congrads on your hoard! If you don't have one, get the cherrypicker's guide. How many coins total would you say there are? Post some pics!

I too have a small hoard, but haven't been able to find it.
When the Government stopped minting the silver coins, I started putting away every one I came across.
The good news is I have a box of them. The bad news is, I can't find it.

Thanks, don't think I need a cherrypicker's guide. I'm using the RedBook and most are pretty common dates. Looks to be about 600+ coins in total. I started putting the 40's and 50's wheaties in 2x2's tonight. Most are EF-40 or better. I found about 10 coins to replace those in my Grandfather's penny album, they were in better shape....that's one nice bonus. Did my own cherrypicking and got about 25 coins there were outstanding for one reason or another. Some with REAL NICE and interesting toning. My dang dig cam broke and I had to send it off for repair. I'll post some pics once I get it back. Probably the best coin I found was an MS-60+ 1942 Wheatie, looks like new. I was surprized that 98% of the wheaties had PERFECT wheathead lines and excellent check/jaw separation. Once I get a handle on these and some time, I'm going to put some up for sale here as I just have FAR too many coins in my possession. I want to slim my collection down substantially and upgrade/trade for more valuable key date coins. It's just too difficult and cumbersome to have this many to worry about caring for them.

Wow....I'm actually sweating from working on these coins! LOL
So far I have 656 penny's 1940-1970. A lot of different grades, quite a few AU/MS. I still have a tube of 1964's and all of them look to be MS, they look new. Spent the last week putting everything in 2x2's and boxes so they are organized and protected. I went out and bought a cheap "blank" album that I could fill in my own dates and I'm filling it with some of the best penny's I find from 1940 to 1971. For some odd reason, there's hardly any S mint marks in all of these, not sure why....but I need to do some trading to acquire some holes I have. But these things are common and I shouldn't have any trouble. It just been fun messing with them.
I have a bomb load of common Jefferson's to deal with. Since they really aren't worth much more than a nickel, I'm going to leave them in their little boxes because there's like 300 or so. Then there's quite a few misc coins that really aren't worth much...have to inventory those yet...but I'm dead tired. Just thought I'd share.

Yea, there's nothing there though. I graded most of them, they are all very nice, but nothing valuable. I was hoping to find something, oh well. Definately got some "special" coins with nice toning or other unusual features.
