So since the car parts I was waiting on didn't come in, I had some spare time and decided to do some good and donate blood (type O-, they won't leave me alone XD) and afterwards I had some time left before work. So I hit up five of the local banks for halves, dollar coins and $2s. First two banks I hit about average, some halves and $2s, but nothing special. Third bank, and one of my favorites, I walked out with over $400 worth of assorted 'funny money', the tellers there dislike it and actually look forward to my visits even though I don't hold an account with them. I managed a 1967 40% half from them, as well as numerous 'Danbury Mint' Presidential dollar tubes (one sealed, the rest cracked open). The fourth bank is one I rarely stop at, never had much luck there and it's a pain to get out of the lot, but I did get a NIFC 2006-D half from them. And the fifth bank, another favorite, is where I hit the jackpot. The teller had a roll of halves that, once I got in the car and opened it, was full of silver! 15 of the coins were 40% Kennedys, bringing my total to a whopping 16 silver halves in one day! I also came out of this with a 1972 Ike, and a trio of S-mint SBAs, now to figure out where to spend the remaining couple hundred in change *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I've been eligible to donate for a couple months now but with the tail end of winter, I wasn't feeling my best and didn't want to risk giving them bad blood.. Didn't stop them from calling me every other day, even after I was supposedly put on a 'reduced call' list half a dozen times!

I'm O+ and get the calls all the time. Just donated double red blood cells to put me over 2 gallons donated. Also, I wish they just gave us silver for donating!

I am A+ and usually donate platelets. Gave platelets Monday, but need to go in next week to donate whole blood so they can check my numbers.

I should really consider double red-cells myself, at 6'3/255 I fall into the size range and they've mentioned it to me in the past. I'll probably ask them about it next time I go in.

Reading the title of the post I thought you gave bold and went directly to a coin store and picked up some silver lol. Cool that you give blood.

Dasalo, I strongly recommend it. of my 17 pints donated, 14 have been during a double red donation. The other 3 it wasn't offered. Perks: Donate half as often. Smaller needle Cons: Takes longer, and sometimes you feel cold due to the process.
It's a really good option especially if you have O +/-.
Fuzzy, donating platelets is really good alternative to blood since you're A+. Good call!

Years ago, I changed jobs and stopped donating. I went with girl friend later to give blood March 2006, and got convinced to donate platelets. I give as often as my body weight and hemoglobin will allow, which works out to about 40 units of platelets per year (a normal platelet donation is 2 units).

My husband is O- and has expressed his desire to the blood center to be called for primarily pediatric cases. So far they have been pretty good about it (I work at Children's hospital so I usually tell him before he gets that call). He will still go in between them to donate but they are fairly respectful of his wishes. Good for you on donating! Great score, I like your "funny money" angle.

I don't have an idea how one would go about donating blood... definitely not in my country. And I'm not sure I'm healthy enough for that, either. Then again, I've never heard of anyone finding any silver in circulation in my country, either (at least after it was demonetized in the 1930s).
