Compared to the butterfly, the frog didn't even double in price during the pre-sales. Even worse, people are now selling them for issue price just to break even. I wonder if the mint would have kept the mintage of 10,000 would it have had the same impact?

Looks like (actually, that's the situation) that to the Mint important the fact, that they managed to sell the coin in less than one day.... The Frog crafted well, but with every new coin in series, the coin from the rare innovative item transforms into the "glass creature sticked to the coin and available everywhere".
While Mongolian still keep the secret, how to continue the series, when even the issue price is unbelievable.

There's so much people who do not want to miss the train that they jump on this theme every year hoping to do the same thing as the first one release, The Ladybug... Come back to earth, this series is like the bird one, only the first issue worth money... And almost all NCLT coins go down in value after the hype, even the Ladybug in a few years you'll be able to get it at 500$...

^Actually, all but the Frog have done nicely.
The butterfly peaked at close to $400, Bumble Bee averaged around $300.
Currently the Butterfly still goes for close to $200, and the bumble bee for close to $230.
Yes, the Ladybug was the only one with the astronomical $1000 price point, but the others have and continue to do well.

I'm with WSDcoins on this... even if the ladybug 'drops' to $500 'in a few years....you will have had the enjoyment of it for that long, and still make a tidy profit. I don't think any of these will sky-rocket like the gulo gulo (spelling?), but I'm sure they will be collectible for a number of years.
My problem is the term 'Rare'. When the mint makes a product - what ever that is... and makes 10,500 of the same thing, to me the 'rarity' of it is just falsely created. After all, 10,500 is a lot of 'things'. People who purchase a couple hundred of them, then hope the popularity continues are taking a big risk.
However, if the mint produced some coins a couple of times a year with extremely low mintages of 1000 or less, and were of a decent price point (ie not gold and platinum) and design - that is how coins begin a steady trend upwards.

Toronto Gold Bull lowered them limit from 3 to 1 yesterday, so I guess it's not selling that bad. APMEX has 26 of the frog in stock, but don't forget it's USD, so 200$ and even more pricy than other places, and APMEX is harder to get for Canadians (no CAN credit cards, add shipping).

Anyone here wants one at cost pm me. Someone mentioned this in the other forum, the reason why this one is not selling too well in secondary market is because there is no delay. If there are delays, this coin would go for $200. The higher mintage also play a factor in this.

I agree, no delay from the Mint, so I guess the 12,500 were sent right away.
So all these combined: 1. No delay; 2. Higher mintage +2,500 3. Hard limit pretty much respected at the Mint, CP and other dealers.
IMO, it sets the price right at the beginning. No inflated bubble, no artificial hype, etc.
BTW, TGB has the frog on PRE-SALE now, so limit 3, down to 1 the very next day, pre-sale the day after.

Yea thats really bad. Clearly this series has run out of steam. The first releases of this series will be fine, in fact at point that prices do dip, buyers that are stalking will snatch them up, keeping a floor on the higher after market prices.
Its just that the frog coin comes at the tail end of this series and I think any future coins following the frog coin with this this style will also act the same way, dumping lower.
Looks like the flippers got smoked on this one.

Something like 100+ ebay listings for the frog, right now. That's a lot of flipping. Is a coin somehow diminished if the secondary market is not an instant money maker? Looks like it is going for $170-$175. It's RCM, ebay and paypal making all the money, I guess.

I punted my two locally to the same buyer for $165 each and was pleased with the result. Flip it while it's hot- or in this case, lukewarm.
