@TheForce

Granted the design has been around but how dull would it be to have rounds as you described? Might as well by bars at that rate. The ASE's have a handsome design and are well known, to change it for a blank slug, never happen.

The mint has a winner as they sell millions of these and they will continue so long as people (like me) keep buying them. It can be over kill with the back to back sets but they are the silver dollars of our age and I will continue to add each date, mint, and type to my set.

I like what OXFL said, thats exactly what I would like the mint to do.

Change the design every year, continue with the 3 diffrent finishes... and perhaps, add a new gold and silver proof every year.

I cant even keep track of how many eagles, in gold and silver, that are proof that I own. I have been a loyal customer. But I have grown tired of the same coin every year, its like routine. I know can expect the same eagles on the coins sort of thing.

why not have the eagles in different poses and settings? Or if they want to continue the eagles as they are, then release a new coin for year year, that is proof gold and silver and is different,,, like with the eagle.... or other native species....

Now, I am not saying lets go overkill here and have the mint release 50 products a month either. But lets have some variety. I release that part of this is the process of how the US Mint goes around making coins.

However, coins are a way for a nation to export its culture, expand the awareness of the country and get the message out, so to speak. It would be nothing but a total gain for the US Mint to have more offerings and reach more people.

This will take an act of Congress, of this I know. I do like how they have switched things up with different finishes with the silver eagles... thats been nice and I have liked that.

I have never liked the ASEs. The obverse is a poor copy of the Walking Liberty design.
The reverse is just boring.
But that's me. I want REAL coins, not imitation coins.
Get the eagle of of its ... perch and replace it with the "ready for a fight"
eagle along the lines of our earliest coins. Have it facing the arrows which,
in this day and age, looks like the new normal.
Shove a sword in Liberty's hand and have her look mean.
Just a rant.

There are some good points here, but if they are going to change coin designs the ASEs are no where near the top of my list. We need more coins featuring Lady Liberty.

How 'bout a pad printed colorized version of an ASE in red, white and blue?
I betcha the U.S. Mint would sell millions!

Personally, I only use them as bullion...I know that may upset collectors but if you take an Eagle to any coin shop they will offer you just below melt. I know people do collect them but they are seen by most as basic bullion.

It's that whole market thing, and how you use it, I suppose.

I have a few stacks of bullion ASEs, and a pile of numismatic ASEs. I've made and lost money off of both kinds.

Due to their liquidity I really don't think there's a downside to owning ASEs/AGEs unless you *really* dislike the artwork. In that case, sell them to me.

@h1cks, and I agree. There are other coins that need attention before the venerable ASE.

I have always liked the ASE design and I buy a few each year, but that's it. It is mostly a bullion coin, so I consider it more like a modern coin, similar to the Kennedy half and dollar coins which are NCLT now. I buy a few of each of those also just to keep my books going. That being said, I think that any design that is over 25 years old needs a change. This includes the dime and half dollar which are waaaaaay past due for an overhaul. We need more liberty coins and I would rather see new designs instead of rehashing old ones.

Change it!

.... and besides the silver eagle, the gold proof eagles are also bland IMO. I like how the eagle looks but even that has gotten old now... and again I been a long time supporter of the gold eagles.

Its time for the mint to update this series or add some other series that runs along side it but changes every year.

Heck if the China Mint can change their panda's every year then there's no reason the US Mint can do something too.
