Please forgive me if this has been mentioned or asked before.

I was wondering tho, when we find a thread we like, or comment we like, could get a feature where we could "like" it on the site or even a "thanks" button?

Just a request/thought

This is my point of view: although this forum encourages different ideas and perspectives, replying to a post by quoting is adequate.
"liking" a thread would become a popularity thing.
Moreover, some people present their critical thinking in the form of satirical criticism. If this happens to a comment/post, it would be quite difficult to clean up the comments from the actual thread.

We've all probably seen those Internet forums out there where practically everyone's signature says something like "If you think my advice was useful, please click on the "+1" button!". It's like they're all competing to win the Helpfulness Prize or something. We're not too keen on seeing that happen around here.

If you like information posted in a thread, I'd suggest just posting a reply, saying so. If it's an old thread and it's either archived or you'd rather not bump it just to say "thanks" or "like", then start a new thread, link to the old one, and say you liked it. If you'd rather keep your gratitude private, then send the helpful person a forum e-mail.

Personally, I like the "like" idea. That way I can share something without cluttering a thread with "I agree" or "nice," which, if I understand the definition, isn't a "quality post."

Only if we can add a "this thread/post is just useless post-padding" button.

well, my thought was, and this my experience from other forums, sometimes it does help spot really informative threads that perhaps you hadnt spotted for whatever reason.

I havent really thought or seen it as "popularity". Sometimes even, as an example, one forum I belong to, say someone posts a picture of an item, you can just simply "like it".

anyways it was just a thought!

I think if you want other member's opinions on this, you can post a "New Poll" thread and see how the vote turns out.

For me, I'm not a fan of the "like" feature on Facebook and would not use it here. I use the "bookmark" option on threads I like, and recently found I could only save 100 bookmarks and had to delete a few.

To me the "like" button is used as more of an acknowledgement that you read it and you agree or "like" the comment, post, picture. If I were to actually reply "I like this" on a couple hundred posts or pics, it would be annoying and viewed as padding my post count. So, I think a like button has its place, just not sure if it is in this forum or not.

Before I joined this forum, I never even heard of someone trying to "pad" their post count. Seems goofy to me. I think it is from all the video games the younger generation played. My number is higher than yours..... I'm better/ I win mentality. I know there are privileges opened up with certain milestones on post counts, but it still seems goofy to me. JMHO.

Well thats what I was thinking.. I wasnt thinking about making something like a "whos popular here" but more of, yes I agree, without having to type that every single time.

In fact,, I thought,,,, I want to say something, there;s a lot of stuff I would love to say "yes I like this" and thought, no other members are going to take it as me being annoying,, so I try to select what I comment on...

I dunno, I would like to do a poll on this and see what the other members feel. Which forum on here, or thread would be the best for such a vote...

The other thing is, I could be wrong but if I understand from Mr Saps comment, there is come concern that it would be about popularity.. which again, I just thought it would be a nice simple brief way to show your appreciation for someones work or discussion on something, where perhaps one wasn't familiar with that specific topic or didn't have anything much else to say... and you walked away with sense like.. "wow this person, had it not been for them, I wouldnt know this about this coin" as an example...

I agree too, never understood the "padding' of comments. I know sometimes we all, in our excitment for focusing on one topic or discussion forget one thing we wanted to add and have to add it later as a follow up....

As an example, I wasnt aware that you could sell your items after so many posts,,, and yet I have yet to have sold a single coin since I started in this hobby nor traded.
