Thanks for the input, guys. I feel a bit better. Ironically they only charged me FIVE DOLLARS! for shipping. I guess you get what you paid for. I would have gladly paid $20+ for much quicker delivery, the ability to track and an actual scheduled delivery date.

Well it depends if its Delivery Confirmation or Tracking. If anything ever shows up other than delivery for DC consider yourself lucky, cause it isn't supposed to. This is why none of our buyers ever get the DC number. Because 95% of them think its tracking and it will make you look like a liar until the package gets there.

I think I would prefer registered mail based on the value of trooper's lincoln. It may take a few weeks but, at least you know you'll receive it.

Here is something scarry. I once had something lost in the USPS system that showed up almost 6 months later. I've always wondered where that was sitting. Also, had items show up practically overnight that shocked me of such fast service. Note the many stories of our postal service where they find a hoard of mail stashed by a disgrounted employee and then process it as if nothing was wrong. People have received mail from the 40's and 50's like that. I think the USPS has a rule that mail will be delivered unless it has been sitting for more than 100 years. What always amazes me is that they don't try to charge more for the postage if the mail was held up for years and the rates had changed during the time. Sure hope that coin shows up soon.

There have been audits of the main Chicago distribution center in the past where they turned up whole 40' trailers full of mail that was 4-5 months old. Washington DC is another bad mail location, because they scan the mail for threats, so often it gets missed and stored for long periods of time.
On the other hand I have gotten mail from friends in Finland and Netherlands in 2 days.

And I always thought postal workers were so level headed.

There is a reason there is the phrase "going postal" to describe someone that has lost it and may be a threat to safety. Several years ago there was a rash of shootings by postal employees in postal facilities which led to the phrase coming into vernacular.

G'day, I live in the Land Down-under. About 4,000 km from Sydney. Occasionally, I buy coins or notes from the USA. Some of the sellers are in out-of-the-way locations. Generally, USPS gets my goods to me in 8 to 14 days. The private services seem to be very expensive, and they can't find me. After about 6 weeks, the seller notifies me that the goods have been returned "undeliverable". In Oz, Registered Post is very quick: you pay a premium rate, and the Registered Items are always the first ones processed at every stage. The British Post Office is unbelievably fast: many items received in less than a week. Peter in Oz

I'm SO THRILLED BECAUSE IT FINALLY ARRIVED! Thank God! And I'm also extremely pleased at how nice it looks in hand. Unfortunately my wife took the camera to NC with her for ten days. It pretty much looks exactly like the scan, only a tad bit darker. It's amazing how hard it was just to find an S-VDB with half decent eye appeal, let alone a pleasing one. Then add the fact that most were asking rediculously high prices. I feel extremely lucky because IMO mine is extremely choice, it has unique and colorful toning and it was very fairly priced! +1 to Liberty Coins

Congrads to receiving the coin. When you get the camera from your wife, post pics ASAP! So are you still never going to use UPS?

Thanks! :) Actually it's USPS i.e. US Mail. I definitely prefer FedEx or UPS because you can track it along the way and they give you a delivery date. You don't have to wait and wonder if it's going to be a week or three. I must admit though, as a shipper I would go with USPS. Certified Mail is apparently extremely reliable, and it's a heck of a lot cheaper.

I do like it when all that worry is for nothing I got a package with my second largest purchase ever early last year that had been in the post for 3 weeks. Of course it was registered, insured etc. and that will slow it way down every time because of the levels of sign off it has to go through.
