The glare is making it hard to see the tops of the devices like "ER" on quarter and the area on the olive branch above the mint mark area. From what I see so far looks flat/shelf like which usually indicates Machine Doubling. The overall size of the mint mark looks reduces in size. So seeing if the areas above and below is showing the same thing would be a confirmation. Try rotating the coin 180 degrees and take a shot, then rotate the image back to horizontal. Glare is something that need to diffused to get a great image. Sometimes something as simple as thin paper, plastic grocery, tissue paper or rice paper can do the trick. Place this between the light and coin to cut the glare.

I can't see the images. Something must be going on with the site. I can sometimes load them with the show picture, but now that is not working. Something is affecting sites and image hosts. Yesterday another site was out for several hours.

Now I can see them. The center post of the mint mark has broken from the die, thus the filled area in the center. But the looks like just the mint mark took the ejection (machine)doubling. Note how the upper loop of the overall mint mark is thinner than the bottom loop area?
Your next question:
Why is just the mint mark area affected and the rest of the devices are not affected?
Answer:
The mint mark is punched into the die. This is done by hand. When the punching is too deep, then it taller than the other devices on the coin. During the ejection of the coin, the mint mark was damaged.

Thanks for the extra images.

Yep, mintmarks on the die are actually punched INTO the die, so when the metal flows into it, and the rising of the die and eventual ejection of the coin isn't right, scraping off a section is quite possible. Just a little pitch in one direction is all it takes for some sort of "mechanical / Machine Doubling" to occur.

You can probably see traces of Machine Doubling on the other devices /letters/numbers if you look closely. The MD should be generally heading in the same direction.

Look at the outer loop of the "R" and the inner top part of the "E". They look like they have the same NNW direction of Machine Doubling from what I can see in the pics.
