Just got this 1874 Indian cent, I bought it because I noticed a big honking cud/crack in the feathers. No damage on the reverse. Anyone ever seen this before? Couldn't find much online.

Looks more like a defect than solder or corrosion. It's not in my variety book for '74.

1. Show the reverse too.
2. Not a Cud since by definition Cuds affect the rim.
3. Too big and rounded for a die chip.

My best guess from what I can see is that the die got damaged (gouged?) and that damage was then transferred to the coin.

Looks like a gouge. Nice pickup. Have not seen one for 1874 and its not in Ricks guide.
