I saw this auction for what looks to possibly be a shipwreck salvaged Spanish coin in an ANACS slab. It doesn't have a numerical grade but is labeled "Prime Select". What does that term mean?

Thanks!

This is quite likely salvage from a shipwreck.
In such a case, the 'finder' of the coins would contract with a TPG
to pedigree the find.
The coin is being sold for its history as much as its intrinsic value.
In some ways it would appeal more to an historian than a coin collector.
As for the "Prime Select" designation a guess would be that among all of the coins found this was one of the best.

As the seller also has jewelry, antiques and ceramics it is unlikely that he knows much about coins.

It is definitely a sea salvage coin and as such has damage that would make it a details coin. Companies that sell sea salvage coins have their own "grading terms" that relate to how badly damaged the coins are. Typically these terms make the coin sound better than it is. This "Prime select" does probably mean that this coin is one of the least damaged of the salvaged coins. They certainly did a large bulk submission for encapsulations and since they weren't have the coins graded ANACS probably let them specify the "grade" to be placed on the holders.
