Hi I bought a 1848/7 Victorian penny, it doesn't look cleaned to me but I have no experience. I was wondering if anyone can look on the listing and use the zoom feature and see if there is any signs of cleaning.
Thanks.
If the coin hasn't and I hope not cleaned what would you say the grade is.

The surfaces look original and uncleaned to me. Though you may want to do something about the greenish crust forming around the date and some of the lettering (not my area of expertise, so ask around).

I'd grade this one at near-EF. It's hard to find these large copper pennies without dented or beaten up rims, so I think you did quite well here.

Near EF? Oh, I was expecting at least EF for the price I paid. :( But I guess grading is subjective anyway.
The green crust is hardly noticeable so I am not worrying about it.

Nice coin!

A soak in hydrogen peroxide and brushing with a nylon brush my remove the green without affecting the patina . . . if you're interested in doing that.

I personally wouldn't recommend applying any chemical other than pure acetone, and absolutely no brushing!

Is the green verdigris or something else because if it is verdigris won't the coin get devalued?
I have no idea about coins really.
Thanks
