Hard to say - it's from sometime around 250-300 AD, but it looks like the important bits of the Emperor's name are right where there's the big piece missing. I think I can read IMP C T[piece missing]VS PF AVG around the obverse. Late third century, emperor's name starting with T... might be Tetricus, but it doesn't really look crude enough. Tacitus is another possibility, though he's normally beardless.

I can't make out much on the reverse at all.

It is Gallienus (253-268. A.D), I have the exact same coin. I bought mine for $19. Mine is in a little better condition though.

He was the son of Valerian I and was made co-ruler with his father. During their reign, the Empire was under invasion on all sides and Rome's defenses were proving inadequate.Valerian was captured by the Persians and ended his life in captivity. While Gallenius became sole Emperor. During the siege of Milan in 268 he was stabbed, together with his wife, by soldiers.

Now that I compare mine with yours a little more closely, I'm not sure if I'm right.

Not much to go by, but here is a shot at it -
Tetricus I billon ANTONINIANUS, obverse legend is probably IMP C TETRICUS PF AVG.
SALUS is the deity on the reverse. Reverse legend is SALVS AVGG
These at cgb are similar:

My ERIC (pg. 328) states that Tetricus II is normally beardless, his father Tetricus I had a beard.

I agree with Sap in that the deity on the reverse doesn't look crude enough, which had me looking in several books to find one closer in style than those listed by cgb.

However many of these were minted in territories which were nominally under Tetricus' control but largely autonomous. The people in these regions minted their own coins imitating the official Tetricus issues, and these barbarous radiates cover a broad range in style and workmanship.

These issues are common in low grade, and hard to find in good condition.

$1 is a good price. BTW, Salus is the Roman goddess of health and prosperity.
