Some South African coins intrigue me.
For example the gold Pound and Half Pound of George V1 dare 1952. They are reasonably scarce but not priced at much above bullion value.
Wold gold coins, generally, minted after 1932, and before about 1980, are hard to find.
The only issues of George V1 are the British 1/2 to 5 sovereign to 5 sovereign. 5,501 sets made, and the S.A. proof and unc issues of 1952. Around 4,000 uncirculated coins of each denomination were struck, along with 12,000 proof pairs, for the long proof sets.
I have a jeweler's copy (AKA fake) of a Sammy Marks gold Tickey (threepence) struck in 22 ct gold. It weighs 2.8 grams, and is 20% overweight, compared to the genuine gold piece.
Some of the bronze coins of George V in proof are quite rare, but curiously, can be had at much less than Krause alleged values.
