I keep hearing of trail die lines-I looked at your pics and I see what these are but this is something new for me so these are markers? For identifying or they are errors themselves? Sorry excuse the ignorance

Yes. It seems like Philly has something not working right on the hub making process.

something is not right with all these mints, period. They seem not to care about due care and process. Long story which I wont cover here.

The photos coop posted are not the same as the ones on Mr.Wexler's site so there must be at least two. The jfines69 coin is awesome!

jfines images look like a combo of a worn hub doubling, shift striking, with a hint of true doubling all together lol

Quote: I am confused about "hub doubling". Is it the master hub or the working hub which gets doubled? I have been trying to find an answer for my question. According to what I have found, there exist: Master Hub Doubling Working Hub Doubling Master Die Doubling Die Doubling The way to tell the difference is not from looking at a single coin itself, but by the number of different dies responsible for the doubling seen on different coins. All Master Hubs and Master Dies are produced at the Philadelphia Mint - none at Denver. This suggests to me that it is a misnomer to use the term "hub doubling" in contrast to " Machine Doubling". It may not be "Hub Doubling". It may be "Master Die Doubling" or "Die Doubling" Somebody, please tell me what is wrong with my thinking? The source of my information is the following and related links: http://doubleddie.com/58201.html

Here is the progression: Any doubling on any step in the progression can be passed down to the dies. The Master hub doubling would create the most doubled dies. (Perhaps the whole year for all mint would be doubled) Follow by Master die doubling,(This chart mentions two made and if they were both hub doubled, all would be affected. If just one affected then a large percentage would be affected) then working hub doubling (that would create several of the dies with the same doubling) and the last chain working die doubling. (Probably one die would be affected)

That is helpful, coop. Thanks. So why do we always talk about hub doubling when it could be Working Die Doubling or Master Die Doubling? Also why do you talk about Master Die Doubling as being Hub Doubled?
