Hello all. The below coin is currently in a TPG slab with a genuine questionable color label. I can vouch that the coin has not been cleaned since 1977 when it came into my family's possession. Do people think it makes sense to resend this coin in for another shot? If so, will going the PCGS secure route improve its chances? As always, thanks for the advice / suggestions.

Spectacular piece. I'd guess MS-64?
****(I do not understand the Genuine Grade).

I don't understand that. "Questionable color"? Just give us a reason why it's questionable. It's an impressive coin and well worth sending back because value will be increased a LOT [edit] if it comes back problem free. The coin with the "questionable" color is still well into five figures.

By the way, PCGS secure may decrease its chances because they carefully examine the coin, I assume more so than with normal slabbed coins.

You absolutely have to resubmit that one. The value multiplies considerably in a problem free. I see that is a DDR. It is attributed on the slab? Did the TPG call it AU or UNC? I think I see a hint of wear so I would say AU 58, but MS wouldn't surprise me.

Thank you Cruisinfusion & Ndwlegal. It received an AU Details grade. DDR was not attributed on the slab. I've got to do some more research on Trade dollar varieties before I send the next batch in for grading. Since neither of you immediately spot the "questionable color" I don't feel so bad for "missing it" and wasting money on a grading fee. Coin will be sent back raw and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it makes it into a problem fee slab. Thanks again for your input.

Ya... I would totally send it in again as well... And if it's deemed "questionable" again by PCGS it'd be on it's way to ANACS/NGC .... And that would continue until graded clean as there's nothing about the colors I'm questioning at all. It's a spectacular coin! Any and all CC's just make me ... I can't have enough of them

I don't have any trouble understanding the "Questionable Color" designation. The color pattern - especially the sharp delineations on the obverse - don't resemble the result of any natural toning process. It was clear even on my smartphone screen.

It's almost a faux finish to this coin versus what natural toning would look like. I am not sure you'll be doing anything other than equivilant to buying a scratch off ticket.
