This is the centerpiece of my small capped bust dime collection.
A fairly scarce date, with only one die variety known for the year - about 200-250 are extant, R-4. I had to search long for this one.

My poor pictures as usual do not quite capture the color. It has a soft
grey tone.

How would you grade it?

borders right to VF20 like the other posting but zero signs of old washing on this one

I think you all grade this coin higher than I do - I tend to be strict in my grading and specially with my own coins. I had this at F15, so happy to see experts opinions grade it higher.

Everybody has a coin they consider special - for me the 1822 capped dime is such a coin, and which I actively pursued in the early 90's. At one time I owned 3 of them, and now retain 2. This is my other specimen, which I kept because it was the first I managed to obtain. It is obviously lower grade but still appealing for the grade.
