Is this mark on the neck of the Indian/Miss Liberty on this 1906 cent part of a clashed die or something else? I don't think it's a piece of lint, although there are a few white pieces of something on the obverse.

Yeah it looks like its part of the coin. Weird.

That's interesting. Judging by the lighting, it looks raised on the neck?
For a clash to get that deep into the portrait, the wreath would also be seen in the fields.
It's not listed in my attribution guides--if it were mine, I'd send it to Rick Snow.

That's an intriguing mark. Very elegant. There are no design elements on the reverse of the coin that would produce a clash like this.

Either way, a clash hard enough to embed features that deep in a die (remember, the devices on a die are negatives) would destroy both the dies and the planchet. Even if it were possible, the reverse features transferred would be as strong in the obverse fields as they were on the actual reverse. It'd be a pretty spectacular coin.

If the image is accurate with the hint that it's a raised feature on the neck, my vote would be for a previous strikethrough strong enough to have left a permanent impression in the die. Not beyond the realm of possibility.

Could also be the result of something hitting the die and causing a dent before hardening.
