This 1890-P seems to have a very weak strike on the "E" in "WE".... in fact the "E" is almost non-existent. Is this a filled die or something else?

Thanks,

Rick

I can't answer that one but those are excellent pics you took there. What did you use?

That's a Grease Fill - they're fairly common in Morgans. The motto was so small, and of such sharp detail, that grease easily stuck there. Although some VAM's exist due to strikethroughs, these days they're only being given VAM numbers as variants of an existing VAM.

HI superDave, Thanks for the info.

Metalman, here's a pic of the date.... looks like a regular VAM-2 Open 9, there's no doubling or other distinguishing characteristics on either the obv. or rev.

Thingee, I use a Sony Handycam HC85 and take still photos in Camera/Memory mode at 1600x1200 pixels under fluorescent light. I download to Photoshop, convert to grayscale, adjust the contrast and brightness if necessary, and sometimes use the Sharpen filter. Then I crop the picture by cutting and pasting into a new image and adjust the size, usually to 7-inches wide at 100 pixels/inch resolution.

Thanks for the replies!

Rick
