1927-S SLQ Standing Liberty quarter Type 3

This one is in an older small ANACS holder..
Care to guess the grade they gave her?

-Grade posted below F12.

(I find many of the old ANACS holders are graded
conservatively by today's standards..)

VG10-12. Judging by the eagle's wings and Liberty's shield.

this one is difficult to decide for me

I'm thinking they graded it VF-20

My personal grade would be F-12 or F-15

The 1927-s is known for exceptionally weak strikes(or possibly die issues). So photograde really goes out the window on this coin. Anyways, taking that into consideration, I think ANACS said VF-25/30. If this actually graded in the VG or fine range(which you kind of alluded to with the grade range you posted)....I would crack it out and resubmit it.

Yeah, I think a lot of the weaknesses are due to strike issues. You can tell the shield is fully separated from the bust, yet there little within the shield. The body also has a lot of depth, yet little detail. The reeding and rims are also clearly of VF strength. ANACS may have net the coin down because of strike weakness when the actual grade should be higher.

F-12 seems right to me... then again, I always seem to under-grade these.
