That Certificate of Authenticity really helps me nail down the fact that this coin is indeed, indeed, INDEED genuine.
I mean, c'mon, it's hand-written with authentic spelling errors. It couldn't get any better.

That note is almost verbatim from a newspaper article from a San Diego paper regarding a real 74 aluminum cent that two guys are trying to put up for auction with Heritage. The government wants to confiscate it saying that it was never meant for distribution. It's in the courts. You can however buy all of the 74 aluminum cents you want from China for about $1.75 each.

On a serious note:
If 16 to 40 examples were presented to government officials, does that
not constitute a distribution?

My understanding is that they were distributed with the caveat that they were to return them. Can't trust politicians to do anything they're supposed to do.

Thanks, kk.
After 40 years a few of those politicians would have died.
The heirs, perhaps not being told of the requirement to return them, would just go ahead and sell.
The Director of the Mint should have known better.

It might be genuine aluminum but it sure wasn't made in this country.

It's been pulled from the auction. Some guy just saved $475 + 20%.
