I picked up this medal at a coin show a few years ago for less than $100. I thought it was a German shooting medal. The obverse inscription reads: Mit Gott Zum Sieg. Hans v. Hallwyl, 1476. The reverse inscription reads: Aarg Kantonalschutzenfest 1891, Bremgarten. The diameter is 45 mm.

Here are some images including the box it likely was presented in. The inscription on the bottom of the box is in French, and it indicates the medal may have been produced in Geneva. The box opens by pushing the metal button in at the bottom. The inside is suede lined.

An internet search revealed this is a Swiss shooting medal.

While in Switzerland in 2010 I passed through three regions, with a different language spoken in each region; German in the north and central regions, French in the west, and Italian in the southeast. So this shooting competition must have taken place in a north or central region.

I haven't found the location of this shooting event. Does anyone know?

Please show your shooting medals.

It looks like it took place in the canton of Aargau, just to the east of Basel on the German border.
In 1891 the shooting festival took place in the town of Bremgarten. Hans von Hallwyl was the hero of the Battle of Murten in 1476.
Shooting is considered the national sport of Switzerland. I've been in several Swiss homes and inns that display their shooting trophies prominently.

Thanks, Amwyll Rwden. I thought Bremgarten might be a building name or something like that.
